CRTPO Board Awards Over $62 Million to Fund 25 Transportation Projects

Including Roadway, Carbon Reduction Projects, Bicycle/Pedestrian, and Planning Studies

For Immediate Release
February 22, 2024

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) Board awarded funding for several regional transportation projects at its meeting on February 21, 2024. These funds support projects across the CRTPO planning area, investing in transportation needs to support our growing communities. The awarded funding allocations totaling $62,261,638 in discretionary grant program project funds, supports 25 projects across 12 CRTPO member jurisdictions in Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties.

The CRTPO is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the three-county Charlotte urban area.  The CRTPO is responsible for long-range transportation planning in the region and ensures Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) transportation funds are allocated and spent appropriately. The CRTPO also works with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to program federal and state discretionary funds to jurisdictions to implement a project, program, or study. These grants are essential to the cities and towns that may not otherwise be able to fund these transportation projects. The projects receiving these funds are listed below. Local media personnel are encouraged to communicate with the project sponsor for descriptions and anticipated schedules for individual projects. Additional information about the discretionary grants program can be found on the website at crtpo.org.
