CRTPO Opens a 14-day Supplementary Public Comment Period On the 2024-2033 Draft TIP, 2050 MTP amendments and the Air Quality Conformity determination report due to NCDOT Releasing a Final Version of the 2024-2033 STIP

May 4, 2023 – For Immediate Release:

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) has opened a supplementary 14-day public comment period to obtain public input on the 2024-2033 Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), amendments to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), and the air quality conformity determination report for the MTP & TIP due to NCDOT releasing a final version of the 2024-2033 State Transportation Improvement Program on April 3, 2023.

The 14-day public comment period starts today, Thursday, May 4 and will conclude on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Final action to approve the Draft TIP and associated documents is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21, 2023, during the CRTPO Board meeting at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.

From March 16 until April 14, 2023, the CRTPO held a 30-day public comment period to obtain public input on the 2024-2033 Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), amendments to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), and the air quality conformity determination report for the MTP & TIP. On April 3, 2023, NCDOT released a final version of the 2024-2033 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) with schedule changes for 16 projects within CRTPO’s jurisdiction. The CRTPO project schedule changes from the NCDOT final 2024-2033 STIP can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Staff has reviewed the NCDOT schedule changes and determined that modifications to the 2050 MTP amendments and the draft air quality conformity determination report are not necessary.

This public comment period offers an additional opportunity for residents, business owners and other interested parties, within the Charlotte Urban Area, which includes Iredell, Mecklenburg, and portions of Union County, to submit comments to CRTPO in conjunction with the adoption of this program. CRTPO’s TIP is a subset of NCDOT’s State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
