CRTPO Opens Public Comment Period for the 2026-2035 TIP Development in NCDOT P7.0

June 22 @ 8:00 am July 22 @ 5:00 pm

June 22, 2023 – For Immediate Release

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) is in the process of developing future transportation projects for Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties, and is requesting resident input on potential transportation priorities. CRTPO works closely with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to develop the 2026-2035 Transportation Improvement Program in a process known as Prioritization 7.0. A 30-day public comment period will be held from June 22, 2023 through July 22, 2023, on the projects of all transportation modes that were proposed for submission for NCDOT Prioritization 7.0.

The State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is updated every two years and identifies the construction funding and schedule for state transportation projects over a 10-year period. The Strategic Transportation Investments law has created a quantitative, data-driven approach to develop the STIP and its local counterpart, the TIP. As a result, the most important opportunities for public involvement in identifying future transportation projects to be included in Prioritization 7.0 are when CRTPO selects projects for consideration, which is occurring throughout the summer of 2023, and when CRTPO allocates its local input points to the final priority of projects, which will occur in late spring/early summer of 2024.

The proposed highway, bicycle and pedestrian, transit, rail, and aviation projects and maps are posted on the CRTPO website on the 2026-2035 TIP Development page. This public comment period will close on July 22, 2023. Comments should be directed to the CRTPO using the following methods:

E-Mail:
email@crtpo.org

Mail:
CRTPO
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center
600 E. Fourth St., 8th floor
Charlotte, NC 28202

Residents may also comment on the proposed project lists in person during the CRTPO Board meetings on July 19 and August 16, 2023. The meetings are held in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center beginning at 6 p.m. Those who wish to speak must sign up at least five minutes prior to the start of the meeting. The CRTPO Board is anticipated to approve the submission of projects for all modes to NCDOT for scoring in Prioritization 7.0 during the Wednesday, August 16, 2023, meeting.

The CRTPO is the metropolitan planning organization for the greater Charlotte urban area, including Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties. More information about the CRTPO is available on its website at www.crtpo.org.
