June 1, 2023 – For Immediate Release

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) have opened a public comment period as part of their certification review of the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO). The public comment period starts today, Thursday, June 1, 2023 and concludes on Friday, June 30, 2023. This allows residents and other interested parties to provide comments to FHWA and FTA officials on CRTPO’s planning processes. Comments may be emailed directly to Bill Marley of the FHWA at

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) mandates the certification of the transportation planning process in transportation management areas (TMAs) at least once every four years for Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPOs) with a population over 200,000 by the U. S. Department of Transportation. The FHWA and the FTA will conduct the certification review to determine if the CRTPO is carrying out the metropolitan planning process in accordance with federal statutes and regulations.

CRTPO is the federally designated MPO for the Charlotte urban area; its planning area includes Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties. More information is available on the CRTPO website at
